Dolphin Club President

Suzanne Reidy Murphy

I wish everyone a very successful and safe Rugby season for 2018/19. We have challenges ahead of us, but Dolphin Rugby Football Club, in its long and proud history, has faced, met and conquered challenges before and will do so again.

It is an honour for me to be President of our wonderful club this season and I hope I can fill the role as successfully as my predecessors.

To those of you coming to Dolphin for the first time, a warm welcome awaits you, the enthusiasm of our coaches throughout the club will give every player, from Minis and Youth’s to Seniors, a great start in your Rugby life. This is clearly evident this year when we see at least 7 or more players on our Senior panel have been in the Dolphin jersey since Mini’s.  The Mini’s summer programme on  Monday evenings has been a great success, evidenced by the 5 year old who told me last Saturday that he was “playing for years, knew all the drills and was working his way from that part of the pitch, down to the older lads, then on to the “big pitch”. Career choices at that age are inspirational! Well done to all coaches and players for their dedication and skill.

Good luck to our club Captain Daryl Foley, who will assuredly lead by example with his work ethic. We look forward to seeing the team tog out in the newly designed jersey and kit, based on club tradition, wear it with pride and I hope all the Senior teams enjoy your Rugby this year. On behalf of the club, we wish you all the success on the pitch.

Thank you to all our club Sponsors, we are very grateful for the support again of Keary’s Nissan, O’Sullivan Pharmacies, Maryborough House Hotel and Goldbergs and welcome and thank you to Samurai as our   official Rugby gear suppliers.

Having grown up in the club, I see slightly older faces, who have worked tirelessly for the club’s success and thankfully also see new faces, full of fresh ideas, all of whom are prepared to give of their precious time to ensure the Club’s bright future. We would welcome and appeal for new volunteers to get involved in the club and please contact any of the email addresses below and you will be directed to a contact, whether in Rugby or clubhouse activities and no matter what time you can spare, there are roles to be filled.

Please make good use of the Clubhouse facilities (see details on Website) and support pre-match lunches and the club bar (over 18’s), when time allows.

To all fellow committee members, who take care of  Rugby for all ages, Finance, House and bar teams, Fundraising, Membership, Club Shop, Grounds, P.R. (web, facebook and Twitter), a big thank you for the support, hard work and indeed survival tactics you perform ‘off the pitch’ and thanks to the family members who support us in the background.

The club has many obligations to fill and we thank each member for their support by way of subscription. Please encourage past players and supporters to join and reach out to anyone for contact details. We are currently updating our mailing lists and perfecting communication streams and would appreciate any help with this. Please send information to the club Hon. Secretary, Turlough Fitzpatrick at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Again, good luck to all, I hope you enjoy and have fun and importantly, make lifelong friends through Rugby, as I have.

Yours in Sport and Dolphin R.F.C.

Suzanne Reidy Murphy

President and Clubhouse Manager.

Message to  Dolphin RFC from Ian McIlrath, President, IRFU, 2018-’19.

It is my privilege as President of the Irish Rugby Football Union for the 2018-'19 season to extend my best wishes to Dolphin RFC.

I wish all teams and supporters every enjoyment and success throughout the season and offer special good wishes to Suzanne Reidy Murphy for her season as club President.

I am aware that, as I write, discussions are being held regarding the future of the AIL and it is as yet uncertain what the format will be for 2019/2020.

Since its introduction in 1990/91 it has been the primary inter-club competition in Irish rugby and year on year its significance is evidenced by the substantial number of talented players who progress to Provincial and National sides as a consequence of having showcased their talents on club pitches throughout the campaign.

This recognition of talent, while creating some short term issues for clubs, also creates a pride and a ‘feel good’ factor within for those who have coached and encouraged these players, often from Mini Rugby days.

Such is in keeping with the wishes of the IRFU who are committed in their resolve to have in place a healthy club and grass roots environment across the Island of Ireland.

I will continue to be an advocate for clubs and for those within them who work tirelessly and largely without recognition, towards the personal and rugby development of young men and women, boys and girls.

On behalf of my Union colleagues I thank all club volunteers for their loyal and much appreciated support.

We are hugely indebted to you.

Enjoy the season.

Best wishes.

Ian McIlrath

President – IRFU.
